Côtes du Rhône
Côtes du Rhône Overview

The AOC (Appellation d’origine controlée - guaranteed area of production) stretches from Vienne in the north, to Avignon in the south , and from the foothills of the Massif Central in the west to the fore-slopes of the Vaucluse and Luberon mountains east of Orange. 419 million bottles of red, white and rose are produced in the region which is divided into the French departments Gard, Drôme, Vaucluse, Bouche du Rhône, Ardèche and Loire.

Côtes du Rhône Grapes

Grenache Noir, Counoise, Cinsault, Carignane, Mourvèdre, Marsanne, Roussanne and Syrah dominate the reds and roses of the region.

Grenache Noir, the most widely planted variety of red wine grape in the world, provides spicy berry notes, but often requires the acidity and tannins of the Cinsault, Carignane and Syrah grapes to produce a full-bodied, well-structured wine.

Côtes du Rhône Wines

In colour Côtes du Rhône reds are ruby, crimson, even purple, and tend to be full-bodied.

La Trouvière is from the Crozes-Hermitage region (northern Rhône). The grapes are 80% Syrah with 10% Marsanne and 10%. This is a supple, smoky wine, laden with dark fruits.

La Truffière is a well-structured, full-bodied Syrah from the AOC Coteaux de Tricastin.

L’Hallali comes from Gigondas, a small village in the southern Rhône. Grenache Noir and Syrah grapes produce this well-balanced, aromatic, spicy red. Gigondas is increasingly considered an alternative to Châteauneuf du Pape, which is located only a few miles away, and whose wine has attained notoriety globally which is reflected in its pricing.

St Joseph is one of the most renowned of all Côtes du Rhône wines. Domaine du Chêne is made from 100% Syrah grape. Cassis, raspberry, and violet aromas dominate this ruby-coloured, silky, delicate wine.
